In 2022 I found a kantha throw at a farmer’s market in Hawaii. I was mesmerized by the colors, and those who know me know what happened next: I bought two. That little blanket has been with me ever since. It has kept the chill off around fires in the mountains of Arizona and Colorado, been my spot for meditation on a dock in Tulum, and held me when I cried and when I laughed. When I get off track, it centers me.
Every kantha starts as a sari. For centuries, women in India and Bangladesh have stitched old saris together by hand, and old cloth was believed to protect from harm. Every Wende blanket has several patterns, and no two are alike. Just like you.
